A Birthday Blog Hop!

DSCF4150

I am super excited today, because I can finally reveal a secret—it’s Lesley’s birthday and we’re honoring her with a blog hop! Woohoo!  Be sure to stop by her blog, Always Playing with Paper, to say hi!!

Lesley is just one of the sweetest crafters I know!  As a teacher, I can see where she would be a wonderful influence on her students’ lives—one of those teachers that you never forget!  Her cheerfulness and positive outlook spill into every area of her life.  I honestly have never read a negative word from her!!  So let me show you the card that I made in honor of her big day:

I have to tell you that this card is a direct CASE of one my sweet friend Martha Stewart did.  (Yes, her name really is Martha Stewart!)  I had the pleasure of meeting her at convention and she and her roomies made me feel right at home!   The card that inspired me can be seen here.  I love fabric, I love to sew, but I often struggled with integrating SU fabric with stamping.  How simple is this?

I just ripped a rectangle of Springtime Vintage fabric and adhered it to my card with Sticky Strip.  I still had this Brides Specialty Paper on my desk, so I stamped the butterflies from Kindness Matters in Stazon and added a sentiment from Easy Events by coloring it with a Basic Black marker.  I love the effect of watercoloring on this specialty paper, as it resists part of the design and makes for an interesting pattern on the wings.  A mat of black cardstock, a black glimmer brad and some narrow grosgrain ribbon finishes it off.

There are several other stampers helping Lesley to celebrate her big day.  Feel free to visit any or all of them to see how they’re wishing her a happy birthday!

LeAnne what a beautiful card. I too have often thought of using fabric (cause I like to sew too) on a card, but just never did it. Maybe now that I see your pretty card I'll give it a try. Love how the butterflies pick up the fabric color. Very nice.

I love the fabric background of your card LeAnne. I often think that great cards are all about texture and what better way to add that than something with actual texture! And the butterflies are the perfect complement!
