Easy Shaker Cards

Hi peeps!  Thought I would share what we made at our club meetings yesterday.  At the beginning of the year, I had a few suggestions of techniques to try and a shaker card was one of them.  I usually don't have good luck with shaker cards....the sequins stick to the sides of the window when I use adhesive strips and they just frustrate me.  So I set out to try to find a different way, and although we still had some "stickage", I think it was an acceptable attempt.  The card itself is very simple, using Jar of Love and Iridescent Sequins, but we were focusing on technique more than stamping!  So here's the card:

And the "technique" was to use a sheet of 2mm Fun Foam, available at any big box or craft store, instead of the adhesive strips.
  1. I cut a piece of the foam slightly smaller than my top layer, and after stamping the jar on the Whisper White panel, I laid the foam underneath and cut both layers in the Big Shot with the Everyday Jars die.  You can cut them both in one pass!
  2. I adhered a Window Sheet on the back side of the jar, then used Elmer's Craft Bond glue on the foam piece (that's the only glue that I found that really worked on the foam) around the edges of the opening and adhered the foam to the back of the stamped panel.  I smooshed the glue around with my fingers to make sure I had a nice coverage, but don't use so much that it glops out!
  3. Once it's dry and secure, I attached the goldfish to the card base with mini dimensionals, piled on a little pile of sequins, then used the same Craft Bond glue to attach the jar layer to the card base, applying the glue to the other side of the foam piece.  It is a good idea to use some Tombow adhesive on the outer edges of the foam to make sure the whole thing is adhered down.
Now, don't these little fishies look cute swimming in their iridescent water?  I love that by using dies and the foam, you can easily cut any shape of opening without having to bend those adhesive strips around!

To give my girls something a wee bit easier, we made this note card with the Wood Words floral image, stamped on a piece of Mango Melody which had a circle die-cut from the center.  I took a 2x8" cello bag, cut it down to 2 1/4", filled it with sequins, taped it shut (use clear tape, not frosted!), then taped it to the back of the stamped piece, centering it over the opening.  I just used plain old scotch tape, taping the corners and making sure no sequins were stuck in them!  Then I adhered the piece to the note card using a dimensional in each corner and stamped the sentiments on the front and inside!  Another cute technique, quickly done and using the cello bags makes them really easy!

We didn't make these note cards during class, but I had made them as samples; the first one used a leaf image from Rooted in Nature stamped in Stazon ink on the window sheet; the second used a longer piece of a cello bag behind the negative portion of the "celebrate" diecut:

Thanks for popping in!  Maybe you'll be inspired to make a shaker card too!  Enjoy your day and be blessed!

Ahh, the satisfaction of a puzzle completed!

Isn't that amazing?!  So many chances to win!  Now let me show you what I created, since my wee little one will be having a birthday next month, I decided to get a head start:

I used the sketch from In(k)spire Me:

and I always sort of cringe when elements are "wonky" but I forced myself to go with it!  I used some Sweet Sugar Plum glimmer paper and a balloon die that was a gift, so I am not sure of the maker--maybe Simon Says Stamp?  The papers are from Bo Bunny's Petal Lane collection, the "celebrate" is from Watercolor Wishes, and the sequins were also a gift:

I added some black glimmer embellishments, and used another sentiment from Perennial Birthday on the inside:  Since it's a shaker, I used SU's thick white cardstock for my base, since it's nice and sturdy!

SO....what celebration will you highlight on your creation?  It doesn't even have to feature balloons, just some sort of celebration!  We do have guidelines as to how many challenges can be featured on one submission, so be sure to check out the rules before you participate!  We want everyone to be able to have a chance to win!  Now GO create something!!  If you need inspiration, you can check out all the designers' creations at the links below (and we have some past designers in there too!)  And since this is a rather long post, if you have any questions about any of the products, shoot me an email!  Have a blessed day!

SIP 90 Smiling Shaker

Happy Tuesday, peeps!  Hope you're snuggled in warm and tight!  We have had snow, sleet, freezing rain, lots of wind and COLD here in SE PA!  Justin has a great challenge for us at Stamp Ink Paper this week, a great one if you like shaker cards, LOL!

Image may contain: 1 person, text

I've said before that I have a love/hate relationship with shakers....they look so cool but are a bit labor-intensive (at least for me) and something always goes wrong...this is my second attempt, the first was a total disaster:  warped acetate, smeared embossing, wonky card all-round.  So I ditched that one and went in another direction, totally based on the colors of these sequins I had in my stash:

I created a little shaker tag with a tag die from Poppy Stamps called Greeting Tags and backed it with another tag that I cut a little longer.  Inside I put my sequins, then added a diecut "a" and "for you" from Endless Thanks.  I can feel the pressure to use up some of my soon-to-be-retiring products, in this case, the Moroccan DSP...such pretty prints....and not retiring yet, but very unused by me, Dapper Denim!  The sequins colors sort of matched this particular pattern, and I used the Can You Case It sketch:

Here's a closeup of the shaker....I stuffed it pretty full of sequins, so it really doesn't shake too much, but I do love the colors!

Be sure to check out what the DT came up with for this challenge...they're amazing!

Another shot of Cassidy's breakfast at the library for Dr Seuss Day.....yep, GREEN EGGS! Amazingly, she never eats eggs at home, but she decided to try them and discovered that she likes them.  Now I can make them for her for breakfast, but she told me I'll need to make them green, LOL!  Of course, cake, graham bears and goldfish make even green eggs taste better!

Have a blessed day!

SIP77 Sketch

Hello again, peeps!  I was thrilled to be asked by the Stamp Ink Paper team to stay on until the end of December!  Woohoo!  This week's challenge is a sketch!  Here you go:

That big circle was just aching to be made into a shaker, right?  And you know my love/hate relationship with shakers, right?  Oh my goodness.  Well, here's the finished (finally) product:

But it was not finished without much angst and grief!!!  I just loved the stamp set in the current Paper Pumpkin kit, and I wanted to use some brightly colored papers from the Recollections City Sidewalk line.  So far, so good.  I cut out a circular mat from some Cucumber Crush cardstock; masked stamped my images in Melon Mambo, Rose Red, Cucumber Crush and Green Galore; sprinkled some assorted snowy glitters on top of my image; added the dimensional strips to the back of my mat and proceeded to adhere it to my image....WITHOUT the acetate window!  GAAAAH.  Back to the drawing board.  In trying to remove the mat, I tore it, so I had to start all over again.  Cut a new mat, added the acetate, the dimensional strips, adhered it to my image....I had TOO MUCH SNOW.  It looked like my village was in a total white-out blizzard.  SIGH.  I lifted up a section of the dimensionals, dumped out the excess snow, stuck it back down again....now there is a FUZZ in the window.  Got my tweezers, lifted up the dimensionals again and pulled out the fuzz.  PHEW!  All that for one little card!

I added some twine on the side, stamped a sentiment from My Favorite Things (Hand Lettered Holidays), added another little piece of DSP on the inside and stamped my sentiment.  DONE!

LOL!  I am sure we all have had card-making processes that just didn't go as smoothly as planned, right?!  I hope yours goes a little more smoothly as mine when you create your card for us this week! Can't wait to see what you create!  Share it at SIP and stop by to see what the other DT members created as well!

Cassidy got a new pet in her Advent Calendar...it's a Christmas pig!  (And it lights up!)

Enjoy your day!

Shakin Just for Fun

Happy Saturday, peeps!  Just a quick post today, we are off to a Veteran's breakfast, which is always a nice event!  No challenges today, this card is just for fun! I finally broke down and purchased some of SU's foam strips to use for shaker cards....I know, can you believe it?  Knowing my love/hate relationship with shakers?!!!  But the strips are easy to use and I made just a little shaker:

This Candy Cane Lane DSP is soooo cute, so glad I finally got a chance to play with it!  I used the Stitched Shapes circles to give my Jar of Love a background, cutting the opening by hand and adding some sequins from my stash for the shaker:

Sentiment is from Oh What Fun. Whee, I love this one!  So happy and cheerful!  And thanks to those who gave me some suggestions for my black ink with photopolymer stamps.  I will let you know the outcome!

Cassidy is "teaching" her doll how to play the ABC song on the piano!

Enjoy your day and be sure to come back tomorrow for a new Paper Players challenge!

Stamp Ink Paper 73 Truly Grateful

Happy Tuesday, peeps! If you're looking for my Try Stampin on Tuesday post, it's here.

It's my second week as guest designer for Stamp, Ink, Paper and the prompt this week is "grateful":

I had been looking through my fall/Thanksgiving stamps and came across a SU set called Truly Grateful, and thought the sentiment would work well with one of elements from this month's Paper Pumpkin kit:

You may know I have a love/hate relationship with shaker cards!  The concept is great, but sometimes the execution is more work than it is worth!  The PP kit actually has a row of three diecut leaves and a plethora of gorgeous sequins in three different sizes, plus their foam strips make it fairly easy to create the shaker.  But I didn't want three leaves, I only wanted one leaf because I wanted a square element to use with my Layering Squares die....(I did use a Stitched Square die too, but this one is not SU since I hadn't received them yet when I made this card, LOL!)

So I trimmed the panel down and used the extra piece to stamp the sentiment on, then carefully punched it with an oval punch and placed it above the leaf.  The stitched square is Top Top Taupe; the scalloped square is Cajun Craze.  I added a Delightful Dijon stitched leaf (Lawn Fawn) and mounted everything on a piece of Autumn Day paper by PhotoPlay.  I just love those little leaves!  And the sequins are so pretty inside and out!

I hope you'll check out the Stamp Ink Paper blog and see what the other designers have created using this theme....and share yours with us as well!

After-school pudding!

TSOT233

DSCF1703

Happy Tuesday, peeps! And happy September, although Mother Nature still thinks it’s the middle of July!  It’s HOT HOT HOT here in SE PA!   It’s time for another Try Stampin’ On Tuesday challenge!  This is our sketch for this week:

and the additional challenge is to make a shaker card!  Oh dear…I love shaker cards, but they don’t love me!  But I persevered, using a couple of new sets from the holiday mini, to make a simple Halloween one:

LeAnne Pugliese WeeInklings TSOT233 Howl-o-ween Treat Stampin Up

I used the new Happy Haunting DSP with a Basic Black card base; I stamped the owl from Howl-o-ween Treat on a circle of Very Vanilla, then added a window sheet and a frame of Tangelo Twist.  My sentiment is from the coordinating Boo to You framelit dies, using the new black glimmer paper….the scraps were perfect to cut out some little stars as well, also in the die set!  I used some black, silver and orange sequins from my stash:

And for the inside, I mixed some sentiments and images from the same set as well as Cheer All Year:

I hope you’ll play along!  You can share your project at our blog or at the TSOT Facebook page as well!

Dana, John & I weathered the first day of kindergarten…well, that consisted of us getting Cassidy on the bus…..without too many tears or a breakdown!

Merry Monday 107

DSCF2611
Happy Monday, peeps!  Another Merry Monday is here…this time Katie has a sweet sketch for us!  I just love this sketch….lots of interesting elements to play with:

At my clubs this month, we are making shaker cards, so I made this one as an example:

LeAnne Pugliese WeeInklings Merry Monday 107 Snowflake Shaker Christmas Card Stampin Up

I used Retro Fresh designer paper and A Round Array for my little snowflake, and some retiring Silver Glass Glitter for the “snow”!  SU’s Shaker Frames and Window Sheets make it easy to make a circular shaker window!

DSCF2616

A sentiment from the retired Endless Wishes polymer set, stamped in Encore Silver, a few Silver Glimmer accents and it was finished!

I hope you’ll pop by the Merry Monday blog to see the other designers’ samples and get some inspiration from them as well!  Then play along with us so you can add to your Christmas card stash!!

We have a pretty big rabbit living in our backyard; Cassidy tried to chase it!

DSCF2580

It ended up escaping under Grampy’s dinghy:

and then she chased it into the flower bed (can you see him on the right side of the photo?)…..where he ran onto the patio and under the porch!!!  Smart bunny!

Enjoy your day!
