3D Star Ornament

DSCF1381
Happy Friday, peeps!  Yay!  Tonight starts our church’s Live Nativity…an exciting time for all the community as we share the true story of Christmas in a rural setting, under the cold starry skies (hopefully they will be clear), with real animals and Biblical characters!!  We even have a host of heavenly angels!  I am always inside serving hot chocolate and cookies, so I usually don’t have time to get pictures, but maybe this year will be different!  If I do, I’ll share them with you!
For today’s project, I wanted to share an ornament I made for Cassidy.  I usually hand-sew her an ornament, and I may still do that, but I saw a pattern for a 3D star in the current issue of Better Homes and Gardens, and I wanted to try my hand at it.  (You can find it here.)  After a trial run, I made one I was happy with:

I know it is a bit difficult to see here because of the muted colors, but it is really pretty!  I used a big glimmer paper snowflake from a SU scrapbook kit and mounted it on the front of the star with some hot glue.  I glittered up a little Melissa Frances vintage sticker and hot glued it on top of the snowflake…added a silver hanging cord and it was done!

To give it a little extra strength, because the star itself is made out of DP, I added a circle of Naturals White on the back, and added Cassidy’s name and date.  Do you like this font?  I downloaded it free from The Graphics Fairy!  LOVE IT!!  I am also submitting this to this week's CASology challenge, which is "sparkle"!

I will say there is a little trial and error to figure out the scoring on the star, but once I got it down, it wasn’t hard at all!  I am sure I’ll be making a few more of these and I’ll figure out all the shortcuts, LOL!  As always, if you have any questions, please shoot me an email!  And thanks for visiting!
Puzzle time!

Cotton Tails

DSCF7500

I have been working on this card for three days---it finally came together today! My niece had her little boy on Thursday, so this will go to the happy new family! It fulfills a sketch and two challenges:

There is not much stamping going on here, just lots of texture and layers. I love the shabby look, I just have so much trouble doing it! The image is from a page of Melissa Frances scrapbook embellishments I have hoarded for a couple years…..now is the time to break into them!! I used several PTI sentiments, stamped them on some tiny tags and distressed them and hung them from my taffeta ribbon:

Isn’t this little picture just the cutest?

And the inside uses a sweet little retired SU set:

Now, off to clean my messy stamp room! Contact me if you have questions!
