ColourQ 38

DSCF8283

It’s Tuesday and that means ColourQArielle has chosen this interesting palette for us today:

cqc38

I love ALL these colors, I just don’t think I ever put them together at one time! As usual, when I am stumped, I do my “lazy”-style card, and this time I pulled out an old, old SU set I got for a bargain at a yard sale; it’s called Sea Shell.  I did some heat embossing, some dry embossing and some layering:

CQC38_LeAnne

This card is 4 1/2” square; the base is stamped with the flourish from Vintage Vogue, then layered with a simple vellum layer for some softness.  Each shell is stamped in Craft white, then embossed with white EP.  I sponged behind each one, including the sentiment from Best Yet, in matching ink to give it some shadow and depth.  They were punched out with a square scallop punch, then mounted on a larger square embossed with the Perfect Polka Dots EF, which also had been distressed a little.  A simple organdy bow in the center finishes it off!

Be sure to check the ColourQ blog to see what all the other designers have come up with…..we want to see your work there too!  Click on the blinkie at the right and it will magically take you right where you need to go!  Thanks for visiting today, too!  And stop back tomorrow for the Color Throwdown….it’s getting closer and closer to CTD100!!

The Right Direction

SCS had a wonderful sketch challenge today for the CAS72 challenge; I couldn’t wait to play!  The Shabby Tea Room also had a “Comfort Cottage” inspiration challenge for Week 15:

Photo inspiration #15

I loved the country vintage feel of this photo, so I pulled out some of the new Graphic 45 paper I got, On The Boardwalk, and another Artistic Outpost image:

DSCF8291

I tried to keep it clean and simple, but I just had to add a really cool vintage fabric-covered button I found in my grandmother’s button tin as well as some linen thread.  The image was stamped in Stazon, overstamped with the Linen background stamp in the new Crumb Cake ink, and then shaded with Dusty Durango and More Mustard inks.  I think this would make a good graduation card, but I doubt most grads would appreciate “vintage”!!!  TFL!

Christmas Fall to Layout 95

DSCF8279

Wow, is it hot here in PA!! Meltingly hot! We were away upstate for a couple of days and came home to heat and humidity! Hard to think of Christmas on a day like today, but I wanted to get my weekly card in! I went to the Clean & Simple blog for Layout #95:

FTL95

and instead of putting my sentiment on the main panel, I put an vintage Santa image from Artistic Outpost, stamped in Buckaroo Blue:

DSCF8277

The background paper is Graphic 45; I used a MS snowflake punch for my border and put some DD glitter in the negative areas:

DSCF8280

Added a sentiment from the same set and a twill ribbon and I have another card for my stash! Being away, I feel a little “rusty” in the stamping area….that mojo has taken a vaca also!

If it’s hot where you are, take a look at these photos; they may cool you off! This farm in upstate PA belongs to a couple in our church; my DH did some work for them and they allowed us to use all the facilities!

But now, my house & my craft room are a mess, I have laundry coming out of my ears and about 40 lb of blueberries to freeze! Better get to work! Have a blessed day!

Paper Players Challenge #3

DSCF8206

Happy Sunday!  Lesley has posted our third challenge over at Always Playing with Paper, and this week it’s a Sketch Challenge!  I can see lots of possibilities with this one!  I love it!   Here’s it is:

Sketch 1 new

I wanted to use some new products, so I made a card using the new Daffodil Delight cardstock, and inked up the little turtle from the Level 2 Hostess set, Long Fellows, for this fun cheery card:

APP Sketch Challenge #1-1

I don’t know….do you think he looks weird holding the balloons between his teeth???  He is still smiling!  I used some papers from Tall Tales DP; I thought the So Saffron blended nicely with the Daffodil paper!  I colored Mr. Turtle with some inks and my aquapainter, along with the balloons from Sock Monkey and tied them all up with some embroidery floss.  Both sentiments are from the Long Fellows set; the little flower is from Holiday Blitz.  Since the DP is retiring, no sense in hoarding it, right?  So I lined the inside of the card with it too:

DSCF8205

and added a belated birthday sentiment from On Your Birthday.

So hop on over to Lesley’s blog to see what the other Paper Players  Corie, Jaydee, Lesley and our guest designer, Jeannie have come up with!!  Play along with us—you’ll have fun!

ODBD Surprise!

DSCF8157

It has been a week for surprises!  First the Featured Stamper, then a Mojo Monday winner and although I knew about this little surprise a little while ago, today I could finally spill the beans!  I am the hostess for Our Daily Bread Designs Stamping In Time on Assignment Challenge(SNTODBD12)!!  Imagine my excitement when Betty emailed and asked me if I’d like to participate—of course I said YES!  It is a two-week challenge, so you have lots of time to play!  I chose to make this an inspiration challenge, and here is my inspiration piece:

Make Me Blush Vera Bradley

11024043

My niece-to-be received a beautiful Vera Bradley bag at her bridal shower in this pattern….I found out the name of it is “Make Me Blush”!!  (I thought that was quite funny!)  So the challenge is to create a card, project or scrapbook page using a selection of these colors.

I used almost all the colors in the fabric, along with a verse from Scripture Collection 2:

DSCF8156

On each panel, I stamped a floral image from SU’s Watercolor Trio in matching ink, then stamped over it with the retired Linen background stamp :

DSCF8155

I heat embossed the butterflies in white craft ink and white EP; then added some swirls and pearls, using some Basic Grey Stella Ruby paper.  I also stamped some flowers on the panel using markers.  The whole shebang is finished off with Very Vanilla grosgrain ribbon.  I hope this card will be an encouragement to the recipient!  After all, that’s why we make cards in the first place, right?  Here are a few other ODBD designers who are also participating in the challenge:

ANGIE

CHRISSY

SABRINA

BETTY

GRACE

And thanks to Betty and all the ODBD crew for asking me to host!  Such a blessing they are!  Now let’s see what you can create; post your project over on the ODBD blog--I can’t wait to see what you come up with!!

Color Throwdown 97 Sew Special

DSCF8182

Broni is our hostess for this week’s Color Throwdown and although her interpretation of the colors was a beachy theme, I went in a different direction!  Here are the colors she chose for everyone today:

swatch 97

I have used up almost every piece of my Cameo Coral cardstock!  But as I was perusing my various stashes of DP, I saw some cute vintage sewing-themed paper in my Material Girl pad, and they matched the Coral and Celery colors pretty well!  So even though it is non-traditional for a “vintage” look, which to me looks old, a little faded or dirty, and well-worn, I thought they would make a fun card for a special friend’s birthday:

DSCF8180

Using the CardPatterns sketch for this week:

sketch68

allowed me to use both of those fun DPs!!  I sewed on the panels, added some lace and twill, did some collage stamping on the oval pattern and added a dimensional sewing machine from the CHF’s Sew Special set:

DSCF8182

I even stamped on the button, using the fabric stamp and white Stazon, and made some faux buttons with a couple punches:

DSCF8181-1

I added a couple strips of the DP on the inside and stamped a birthday sentiment:

DSCF8183

Now be sure to check out the CTD blog, where you can find out all the details on how to throw down color with us!  And remember, if you don’t have the exact colors, you may use something close!  We want you to have fun!  You can also see the CTD designers’ cool creations right here:

Mercy Sketch 78

DSCF8200

I had been itching to stamp this beautiful new hostess stamp in black ever since I saw it! When I saw Mercy’s sketch:

MTSC78[6]

I knew it would be perfect! Doing this in black and vanilla may seem a little dull, but I think it’s elegant! I left the inside blank so I can add a sentiment that is appropriate for the occasion:

DSCF8199

I used the new Newsprint DP as my background and simply stamped the image twice, once on the circle, and again to be fussy cut and popped up. The sentiment is from All Holidays. I wish I had some black taffeta ribbon, but I had to do with black grosgrain. Thanks for looking today!

  • Stamps: Because I Care, All Holidays
  • Paper: Basic Black, Very Vanilla, Newsprint DP
  • Ink: Stazon
  • Acc: Scallop Trim Punch, Circle Punches, Nesties, Grosgrain Ribbon, Dimensionals
