AYSI238 Pink Poinsettia

Happy Friday, peeps!  Time for a new As You See It challenge, and I just LOVE this one...look at these gorgeous colors: 

I had an idea in my head as soon as I saw the colors, but it didn't quite work out as I had planned, but I kept at it and I think it turned out okay.  I wanted to use a poinsettia from the Poinsettia Petals stamp set to stamp off the edge, but the one I chose was a little small for the effect I was trying to achieve:

This really looks better in real life than in the photo!  Anyway, I heat embossed the poinsettia with black embossing powder, then watercolored it with Petal Pink and Flirty Flamingo, adding some gray to the background.  It looked a little puny, so I added some berries.  Still puny.  So then I added the "greenery", or maybe I should say "pinkery" and it filled in a little better.  

THEN I realized I got a black smudge on the face of the card, so instead of stamping a sentiment, I used a Concord & 9th diecut, but the smudge showed through, so I backed it with some glimmer paper.  Finally, I added some speckles, rounded the edges and adhered some gray sequins.  Phew!  

And the reason I wanted to stamp off the edge was because the CAS Mix It Up Challenge this month is stamping off the edge, and the CAS Christmas Card Challenge is to use non-traditional colors:

IB149 Holly Jolly Wishes

Hello peeps!  Happy Thursday...it's time for a new Inspired By challenge!  Check out the fun photo for this week, along with the optional sketch:

Aren't they fun?  I didn't really have any dies that said "merry & bright", but I did have some that said "holly jolly", along with a woodcut stamp, so here we go:

The woodcut was stamped in Crumb Cake, and the sentiment in Real Red and Call Me Clover cardstocks.  I diecut some holly leaves from Shaded Spruce, and added a couple of banner sentiments from the retired Endless Wishes:

The background was embossed with the Dainty Diamonds embossing folder, and I added some Holiday Rhinestones as berries!  I didn't use the IB sketch this week, but used the Try Stampin on Tuesday sketch:

TCC143 Giving Thanks

Happy Wednesday, everyone!  Time for a lovely new Card Concept Challenge, and Julie has a beautiful theme for us this week:

 

My inspiration was the whole Thanksgiving feel of the table setting; my first instinct was to print out a vintage Thanksgiving postcard like the one of the plate, but my friend shared some of her older SU stamps with me and I found this beauty in her stash, called Thanksgiving Blessings; I thought it would be nice for a Thanksgiving card, as well as giving me a chance to do some watercoloring!

I began by stamping the fruits on a piece of watercolor paper in Stazon ink and coloring them in with some inks and an aquapainter.  When I was finished, I diecut the image with a Stitched Nested Label die:

On the remaining piece of watercolor paper, I stamped an old leafy background stamp in Crumb Cake; since the paper is textured, the impression was very faint and I liked the look it created.  I cut it into a tag using the Bonanza dies and added some rustic ribbon and twine:

The sentiment on the tag is from CTMH's Autumn Blessings; the background for the card is some DSP from Echo Park's Fall is in the Air 6x6 pad, and I embossed it with the Quilt Top embossing folder, then sponged it with some Cajun Craze ink.  It all went on top of a Crumb Cake card base; And here is the inside, stamped with a sentiment from the SU set:

I would call this style shabby/vintage, as the ribbons are frayed and I did a lot of sponging on the embossed piece....plus the style of the stamp itself lends itself to a vintage look!  SO...I hope you'll play along with us at the Card Concept blog, and be sure to tell us what your "style" is...you can find details on the blog!  Can't wait to see what you create!

I do love vintage postcards like the ones in the photo above, so I thought I would share a couple from my own collection; these came either from family members or from yard sales and antique shopping.  Here's quite the patriotic bird:

The back shows that it was sent to my Great Aunt Pris; there's no date, but it must have been while she was still in school, because she lived in Poughkepsie as an adult:

RRCB147 Anything Goes

 Happy Tuesday, peeps!  So happy to have you pop by today!  It's Retro Rubber time, where we give our older stamps some love!  AND it's "Anything Goes" this week:

Anything Goes challenges are a challenge for me....I have so many "retro" stamps, it's hard to choose which one to use!  I need guidelines, LOL!  Anyway, I decided on a couple of CTMH sets from a few years back; one is called Poster Tidings Fall and Winter, the other is called Just Treats, for my Christmas card this week:

To get started, I used the Fusion Card Challenge sketch and photo inspiration for this week:

I stamped the words in Crumb Cake on a Naturals White piece of cardstock and mounted it on some Kaisercraft DSP, then added a vellum panel with a glimmer paper frame.  I added a little cup of something warm, a Soft Sky snowflake and some "berries".  

And because I have a hot beverage on my card, I am also entering this at Shopping Our Stash, which is looking for "Hot Beverages for Cold Nights"!

So I hope you'll play along with our Anything Goes challenge this week, just remember that your stamps have to be at least a year old, and tell us their age!  Can't wait to see what you create...share it with us at the Retro Rubber blog!

A Plethora of Purple

 Happy Monday, friends!  I have a very purple card for you today!  Purple hues are always a challenge for me, but I have a friend who loves purple and her birthday is coming up, so I made a very purple card for her, using the pretty All Things Fabulous bundle!  So here we go:

I used shades of Highland Heather, Gorgeous Grape and Blackberry Bushel for my three-step stamped florals and Mint Macaron for the leaves.  Before adhering all my flowers, I embossed a Highland Heather card base with one of the Greenery embossing folders, and added some Highland Heather DSP and a torn edge of Gorgeous Grape: 

My sentiment is from Itty Bitty Birthdays; the florals were assembled on a large Stitched Nested Labels die, and the final embellishment was a sprinkling of Iridescent sequins!  Hope she likes it!

PP515 Turkey Time

Happy Sunday, everyone! Happy NOVEMBER!  Time for a new Paper Players challenge; this week Laurie is our hostess with a fun seasonal theme:

This one gave me a giggle, so I went literal and found an older SU turkey stamp, so here we go:

I used the sketch from The Spot:

and I just gathered up some fall-colored leftover pieces of patterned paper to create my layout.  I stamped Mr Turkey in Soft Suede and added the sentiment (same set) in Cherry Cobbler, and it all went on a Bumblebee card base.  I did use Faux Suede Early Espresso ribbon as well as the current Banner Year for the little embellishments and the inside sentiment:
