The Card Concept 138 You Are Special

Hello, crafty peeps!  The last Wednesday of the month brings a new Card Concept challenge:

I love all the nautical elements in this photo, but since I just did a nautical card for Wayne's Father's Day card, I decided to focus on the blues and the pretty white starfish!  So here we go with my Clean and Layered creation:

To start with, I used the Global Design Project sketch:

Those little circles really intrigued me!  I made some circle stencils with an acetate sheet and used some shades of blue to sponge them on the front of my card.  I also added a bubble stamp!  My starfish was heat-embossed in white on Very Vanilla, then watercolored with Soft Sky ink to bring out the detail of the embossing.  I added sentiments from Tasteful Touches and Ornate Thanks, layering them on some diecuts.  Before adhering the diecuts, I trimmed the front of my card and added some striped DSP on the inside edge and diecut a little scallop to adorn the front edge:

I added some sequins and rhinestones, then stamped a sentiment from Itty Bitty Birthdays on the inside:

Thanks for popping in today! I hope you'll play along with the Card Concept challenge...there is something there that will appeal to you, I am sure!  Just be sure to tell us what style you used to create it!  I am taking a summer break from The Card Concept, but it will continue on, I'll just be back in the fall!

I was thrilled that the pool we like to go to was taking walk-ins yesterday!  Originally, they said they would only have summer memberships, which didn't fit in with our plans, but we were at the point of desperation and thankfully they said to come on over!

We were happy campers!  Enjoy your day and be blessed!

TSOT462 Bee Sympathy

Happy Tuesday, peeps!  It is hot, hot, hot today! Hoping to cool off this afternoon in a pool somewhere!  My card today uses the sketch from Try Stampin On Tuesday:

and it is a sympathy card for the Amish friend who gives John (and sometimes me!) his bee sting therapy.  Have you ever heard of that?  You can read a little about it here.  John started doing it for numbness and pain in his hand after my brother told him about it. He is always trying alternative medical things, anything to not have surgery!  Anyway, our friend's MIL passed away, so I thought a bee-themed card was in order:

I used the stamps and dies from the recently-retired Honey Bee bundle; the sentiment is from a past Paper Pumpkin kit, and the flowers on the blue panel are from Bloom and Grow:

And the inside Bible verse is an old one from Our Daily Bread Designs:

Hopefully it will bring some comfort to the family!   And I had  Mr Lapp 's permission to take a couple pictures of him stinging my brother:

He holds the bees with a tweezer so he can get right at the area of pain; apparently he himself was in excruciating pain from back issues and sought relief from bee stings when he had exhausted all other avenues.  He was so excited about the results, he decided to learn to do it himself and now shares it with his "patients" all over the area.  John believes it is beginning to help him; my brother and I dislike the swelling and itching afterwards; the stings really aren't that bad, so we're not quite sure it's worth it!  So we'll see how it goes with John...I'll keep you posted! Thanks for popping in today, enjoy it and be blessed!

CAS Snowflake

Happy Monday, peeps!  Hope you had a good weekend.  We spent some time with our family, which was really, really nice!  That meant I didn't get any time in my craft room, but I was up at 3:30 this morning, not able to sleep, so I started a couple of cards and finally finished one of them up.  Why is it that CAS cards are not so simple?!  Anyone else have that issue?  I just want to add more stuff!

Anyway, the Addicted to CAS challenge this week is one layer; Christmas Card Throwdown wants snowflakes, and Krafty Chicks wants clean and simple!

  So here we go:

I began with a Thick Whisper White card base and stamped the large snowflake corner stamp in Misty Moonlight ink on both corners.  I added a few extra snowflakes in Balmy Blue, then stamped a sentiment from the retired Merry Christmas To All in Night of Navy.  I used my Stamparatus to get a good, dark image, then stamped over it with Versamark ink and heat-embossed it with clear embossing powder:

It really made the sentiment stand out!  I stamped another snowflake and sentiment from two past Paper Pumpkin kits on the inside, and it was finished!  I didn't add any sparkle, gems or ribbon!  CAS it is!

Cassidy and her cousins spent a LOT of time in the pool yesterday....they were moving so fast, I barely got a chance to take a picture:

I would venture to say she slept very well last night!  Thanks for popping in today---enjoy it and be blessed!

PP496 Clean and Simple Thank You

Happy Sunday, peeps!  It's time for another Paper Players challenge with Joanne as our hostess:

Remember that CAS means limited layers and elements---you can check back at the Paper Players blog to get a refresher if necessary!  I happened to need a thank you card to send to my upline's upline...my SU "grandmother", so to speak, so this is what I created:

She gifted me with this Tasteful Touches bundle, so I went to work with it! I stamped the flower in Memento ink and colored it with a Rococo Rose blend, added some leaves from Forever Flourishing dies, and a panel of Rococo Rose DSP, cut with a die from the Tasteful Labels die.  I also stamped a thank you sentiment from Butterfly Gala, and for fun, I stamped a feather in Versamark ink and highlighted it with some old SU pastels...anyone remember them? I still have mine!!!

I also added some Rose Metallic thread behind the florals for a little extra interest.  In hindsight, I wish I had gone over the flowers again with the Blends to intensify the color so it would match the DSP better, but it's long gone in the mail!  I am also entering this in the CASe This Sketch this week:

I hope you'll play with our Clean-and-Simple Thank You challenge this week!  It's such a nice gesture to send someone an unexpected thank you, so here's your chance to make someone's day!  Be sure to hop over to the Paper Players blog to see what the designers created as well!

John recently did some repairs on a friend's Gator; after the repairs were done, he let Lee test drive it (very, very slowly) around the yard!  Since Lee is a pro at his ATV, John wasn't worried about his driving capabilities and Cassidy was thrilled to go along!  He did great!

Enjoy your day and be blessed!

Two Cards, Three Challenges

Happy Saturday, peeps!  Hope you have some family plans set up this weekend....I am looking forward to ours, I know!  I needed to make a Father's Day card for Wayne, so I went searching for some challenges and came up with a sketch challenge from Inspire.Create and a color challenge from CAS Colours and Sketches (I hope it's CAS enough!):

I had gotten this Clearly Whimsy Ocean Journey set a long time ago and I don't think I've gotten it inky once!

I stamped the images in Night of Navy, doing a little paper piecing for the boat (upside down anchors---hopefully he won't notice!), adding some trim from the Playful Pets combo along with a few diecut stars:

Both sentiments, inside and out, were from different past Paper Pumpkin kits, both diecut with Stitched Rectangle dies:

My second card is for the Color My Heart Dare challenge, which is monochromatic yellow:

I already had made this card but hadn't posted it, so it was perfect.  I think this is my favorite paper from the Flowers for All Seasons DSP pack:

I just layered a panel of Bumblebee, diecut with a Nested Layers die, over top of the DSP and mounted it on a Whisper White card.  The sentiment is from Here's a Card, stamped also in Bumblebee.  Simple but oh, so pretty!  I added a few Gold Gilded gems for fun:

And Cassidy made a card for her daddy (she already had one for Wayne), and as you know, she has her own style:

Rocking the Stamparatus:

Got all her images and sentiment stamped in black on Merry Merlot (she really likes those dark colors!):

And I was quite impressed with what she did on the inside, and it was all her idea!  She die cut "DADDY", then formed an acrostic for each letter!  And of course, added some hand-drawn hearts as well!  I hope Daddy appreciates it!

Thanks for popping in today--enjoy it and be blessed!

AYSI228 Pink Butterflies

Happy Friday, peeps!  Time for another As You See It challenge, and it's a recipe!  Here we go:

No photo description available.

My original card for this challenge was an epic FAIL. I just could not get my colors to work together well.  I have been disappointed in SU's selection of pinks in the last few years.  I loved Pink Pirouette, but they retired it; Blushing Bride is acceptable, and Rococo Rose is pretty, but a little too dark for what I wanted to create.  Petal Pink is just too orangey for me.  What to do, what to do?  In the end, I DID use Petal Pink, along with gold embossing, for my butterfly-accented card today; I ended up really liking these colors together:

I started by stamping my butterfly from Butterfly Gala on three different Petal Pink DSPs, but by the time I did the embossing, you couldn't see the patterns anyway!!!  But trust me, they're there!  I punched them out and layered them on a piece of Petal Pink DSP diecut with a Tasteful Labels die...LOVE those dies!!  My new favorites!  The "thanks" sentiment from the retired Watercolor Wonder set was also embossed with gold.  I added some gold thread, tied in a bow behind the panel, and some new Gilded Gold gems on each butterfly:

I put it all on a Stitched Rectangle panel that was embossed with the Subtle embossing folder, then mounted it on a Whisper White card. My sketch is from FMS for this week:

I hope you'll create something yummy with our recipe this week!  Be sure to check out all the designers' creations at the As You See It blog!

So yesterday, Cassidy and I are in the car, driving on the highway in light rain.
Me:  "Look at that crazy driver going past me...it's raining, and he doesn't have his lights on.  And the car behind him is tailgating!"
Cassidy:  "I don't know what that means."
Me:  "Tailgating is when the car behind you is too close; if you have to slam on your brakes, he might hit you because he doesn't have time to stop."
Cassidy:  "Ohhhh...so the cars aren't practicing social distancing!"
LOL!!!  Thanks for stopping in today--enjoy it and be blessed!

IB129 Fresh Morning

Hi there, everyone!  Since I flaked out on last week's Inspired By challenge, I made sure I was on the ball this week! Danni has a gorgeous inspiration photo for us:

Wouldn't you be invigorated every morning if this was your bedding?  I just loved all the elements so I tried to re-create some of them on my card:

I started with some striped Golden Honey DSP from the recent SAB catalog, then added three diecuts from Nature's Thoughts, layering them on a Calypso Coral base:

I thought the section under it looked a little bare, so I added another panel of embossing, using one of the new Greenery embossing folders.  I like it!  At the bottom, I created a "quilt" panel using the retired Quilt Builder dies, some Coastal Cabana cardstock, and some Whisper White cardstock that was embossed with a retired Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder:

I added a diecut flower and enamel embellishment for fun!  Finally, I made a tag using the Trio of Tags die, added a sentiment from Forever Fern (the only stamping on the whole card!!!!), a glimmer brad, and some black and white baker's twine from the Playful Pets Trim Combo Pack:

I think this card would probably wake someone up with all the elements that are on it, LOL!  The design team has made some delightful creations with this inspiration...I'm a tad bit jealous at how pretty they are!  Everyone is so creative!  I hope your creativity is sparked by our photo this week...be sure to share your card with us at Inspired By!  Thanks for stopping by...enjoy your day and be blessed!
