Happy Saturday, peeps! I have a quick post today; I am a little embarrassed to post this, but my stamping friends encouraged me to share it! It was really just a trial project; there are a few things I would change about it, but for now, you can get the general idea.
I thought it would be fun to make a little votive holder using the Hometown Greetings Thinlets and some vellum, so this is what I came up with:
As I said, it's a little rough; next time around, I would make the base narrower so that it doesn't show behind the diecuts! But you can see the general idea. Here are the other sides:
You can see how the edges of the diecuts don't quite meet the edges of the base, so I would reconfigure that! Some of the houses had to be cut and repositioned to make them fit as well. The vellum was embossed with the Falling Softly embossing folder. And here is what it looks like from the top:
The measurements of the vellum are 8 1/4" x 3 1/4", scored at every 2", leaving a 1/4" strip for adhering (I used Tear n'Strip). For the base, I used a 3/4" strip of Whisper White cardstock, also 8 1/4" and scored like the vellum, then tucked the vellum inside the base after it was assembled, but as I said, I think that was a little too high and I would probably make it 1/2". You can use any of the Hometown Greetings dies that you like and attach them to the base.
The sentiment, stamped in Smoky Slate, was from October's Paper Pumpkin set, but any small Christmas sentiment could be used. As I said, this was a rough prototype; you could add ribbon, glitter, a scalloped border, anything! Just be sure to adhere everything VERY WELL so your project doesn't fall apart!!
It's hard to believe that it's November, and yesterday the doors were open, Cassidy wore a sleeveless dress, and was eating ice cream after school! I have a feeling we'll be paying for this nice weather SOON!
Enjoy your day and thanks for popping by! Be sure to stop back tomorrow for another Paper Players challenge too!
I think it's a beautiful project and would not be so hard on yourself. I would love to have a few of those you are embarrassed about. Maybe three of them on my mantle.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I like it a lot and you have to start somewhere. Thanks for paving the way for us.
ReplyDeleteGreat project! No one would know you didn't want it to look that way if you didn't tell us. But it gives a good glimpse of the process of creating too. How good ideas get better when we give them a chance.
ReplyDeleteCute project. Why would you be embarrassed?!?!?
ReplyDeleteCassidy is growing up so fast. She's a darling.
What a great idea for neighbor gifts. Thank you for posting it. You are right about the weather. I heard on the long-range forecast that we may have a white Christmas in the Northeast region of Pa.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your great idea! I put the two larger town dies next to each other, then scored every 2", worked great. I also added a 1/4' piece to the bottom of the inside for stability. Keep those creative juices flowing!!! Peggy
ReplyDeleteThis is adorable, LeAnne! What a great idea. Love the vellum for the "box" portion and it looks fantastic with the embossing. I'm going to try this!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great idea! This is going to be fabulous when you do the final version!
ReplyDeleteThis is super LeAnne....great idea....and for goodness sake give that child a spoon...lol...lost them in the remodeling...must be hard eating ice cream with your fingers...but much sweeter....
ReplyDeleteThis is such a cute idea Leanne! I could see several of these lined up on a mantle. The glow would be so pretty! Cassidy looks so grown up in this picture!
