Happy Sunday, everyone! We have a new Paper Players challenge with Joanne as our hostess:
This worked out great for me, as I just had a Stamp Camp making cards for men and boys! I chose one of the boys' ones, using some cool glossy papers a friend gave me and the Bonanza Buddies stamp set:
I used my favorite layouet and mounted the printed papers on a Granny Apple Green card base. The birthday sentiment was diecut with a Tasteful Labels die and accented with images from the Bonanza Buddies set:
And I just had to add a couple little pompoms for fun! Here's the inside too:
I have learned to make boys' cards pretty simple....they usually appreciate the gift that goes with it but the card....it's mostly appreciated by the moms and grandmoms, LOL! I hope you'll play along with "Cards for Boys" challenge this week at the Players....can't wait to see what you create! And be sure to check out what the DT created at the Paper Players blog! Thanks for visiting today!
Last weekend we cleaned up the roads around our church; this weekend we worked on the cemetery! Last weekend the weather was beautiful...this weekend, it was sunny, 45 degrees and the winds were blowing about 40 mph (well, at least that's what it felt like!). We all needed hats, scarves, gloves and warm clothes....except for Cassidy:
After helping me replace most of the American flags, which get very worn in the weather, she helped pick up sticks. When you have a really old cemetery, there is always work to be done. Some of our headstones are from the 1800s and are not anchored in the same manner that modern headstones are, so they end up looking like this:
Or snuggled together like these are, or even toppled over completely:
It's quite an effort to right the ones that are leaning or toppled over...it requires a special machine and a plan to affix them properly in place once they are upright, not to mention the funds to do it! So probably many will have to stay this way for a while!
And this is one of the oldest ones I found, there are probably older, but Mary Ramsay died in 1851 at age 42, so she would have been born in 1809!
Hope you didn't find these too morbid! I think it's really interesting to see these older headstones...a walk into past history! Enjoy your day and be blessed!

I love this layout, and all the fun papers, LeAnne - perfect, and worth more than any boy's 10 seconds of attention, right?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the walk through your church cemetery - if it's morbid, count me morbid, too - I love it! Even traveled to England to find my great-grandfather's!
=]
What perfect timing LeAnne! I love this bright and cheery card - balloons and presents make a perfect pair for any birthday! I'm inclined to agree with you on the card v gifts though - boys are always more interested in the latter!! Thanks for doing a grand job with my challenge theme this week!
ReplyDeleteCute card! Love the pompoms on the hats - so fun! They featured a woman on the news in January who was cleaning gravestones as therapy to get her through a rough divorce. There is such history in a graveyard that deserves your good intentions.
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of history in a grave yard. Not morbid, to me, but interesting.
ReplyDeleteLove the DP you chose for the bday card...perfect for the challenge.
ReplyDeleteSo interesting about the headstones, and great that you are helping keep the cemetery cleaned up!
This is a terrific boy card, the moms and grandma's will love it LOL! We spent a lot of time in cemeteries a few years ago doing some family tree research. It's interesting and we enjoyed all of the different types we visited!
ReplyDeleteFun card! I like the mix of papers and the way you used the smaller stamps to highlight the sentiment is great for a quick boy card! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteSuch a bright happy card! And I love wandering through old cemeteries!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great boy card, Leanne! I LOVE the paper. The pompoms on the hats are the perfect accents! I loved reading about the cemetery clean-up. I find old cemeteries and their histories fascinating. Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteThis card did turn up at the perfect time for you! Love the added pom poms and the sweet inside message as well. As for your photos and writing...I enjoyed it immensely. I think old cemeteries are fascinating too and what a wonderful thing to do.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful boy card with the bright colors, hats and balloons LeAnne! and what a great sentiment - we have stones like these in our town cemetary as well - so sad to see them fallen and broken.....
ReplyDeleteLeAnne, what a perfect card for a boy. I love the colors and adding the pom poms is a happy touch. The sentiment says it all! Hope you enjoyed your week.
ReplyDeleteLeAnne, this is just perfect for any guy! I love the gorgeous colors you picked and those little hats are too fun! I too love to roam in the cemetery! When I go visit my parents and grandparents, I am shocked at how many people I know there. The old gravestones fascinate me! I hope you have a great Mother's Day, My Friend!
ReplyDeleteLeAnne, OK, so I have to confess my fascination with old graveyards. they really do tell a story and I visit them in new towns whenever we are traveling in the UK. They can tell such a story for the individuals but also families and even towns.
ReplyDeleteNow, on a much brighter note - I love the wonderful bright colors and the little party hats and present surrounding the sentiment are the perfect finishing touch for your card.
