Happy Friday, peeps! Have you ever gone through the creative process to make a card and you were thwarted every step of the way? That's how it seemed with this "interesting" card today! Before I elaborate, here's the card; it's note card size, so how much could go wrong, right?
So the Christmas Kickstart challenge is "Hatty Christmas", and the FMS sketch is pretty interesting:
So I had the idea to make the bottom portion of the sketch a Santa hat! I took a notecard and embossed it with a snowflake embossing folder, then cut a panel of Riding Hood Red and sponged it with some Cherry Cobbler ink to give it some depth, and that's where things began to go wrong. :
No matter how careful I am, I always manage to get ink of my fingers, and in this case, I smudged red ink on to the white background in a couple of spots. Grrrr. I covered it as well as I could with a white gel pen. Next, I freehand-cut some Dazzling Diamonds glimmer paper to create a brim, then added some little diecut holly leaves and an enamel dot for a berry. My pompom was punched with small scallop punch. Then I added a sentiment:
Of course, I was too lazy to get out my Riding Hood Red ink, so I stamped it in Cherry Cobbler...not a good match. By this time I was getting frustrated, but I pushed on. I stamped the inside with another sentiment from the same set, this time I reached for the Real Red ink pad...really????:
Then when I went to photograph it, I realized that as I cleaned my stamp, the cleaner spritzed all over the inside of my card. So I decided to stamp a few little tiny snowflakes inside to cover them up, and OF COURSE I got another BIG red splotch of ink on the inside. I mean BIG! I gave up and just stamped another panel and adhered it on top of the mess. Finally, when I was writing my post, John came in and said "That does NOT look like a Santa hat, it looks like an hourglass!" SO.....I hope that the patient understanding soul who receives this card will say, "Oh look, how cute! A SANTA HAT!" LOL! Thanks for walking through my disastrous process with me! For fun, I am linking this up to the Krafty Chicks Challenge of Christmas, as well as the Christmas in July theme for Shopping our Stash!
Stay cool, thanks for popping in and enjoy your day and be blessed!

Oh my - well you’ve made me chuckle with your post this morning but I feel your creative pain, really I do! Red ink in any shade is a potential disaster near white cardstock, but I will say you’ve obviously done a great job of covering up your booboos as this merry little Christmas card is great - and I’m afraid John I could totally see a Santa hat the minute I set eyes on your card and thought your design was truly inspired! I think maybe it’s the FMS sketch that’s jinxed; I made a card with it yesterday to blog today too and at one point during the process I picked up my Pacific Point marker awkwardly - without realising the lid was off. The side of my hand was blue for hours!! The trials of the creative process lol!
ReplyDeleteIt's a homemade card & one of a kind.
ReplyDeleteDon't fret over your card. I think many of us have been in your shoes at one time or another where nothing goes right no matter how hard we try to correct our mistakes.
Hang in there as there Will be better days.
Have a wonderful weekend; stay safe & stay healthy.

Hmmm...are you telling me all those disasters aren't a normal part of making every card??!!
ReplyDeleteLove your fun and creative use of the sketch!
I saw the Santa hat immediately and thought it was an awesome idea. I had to go back again to see how John got an hour class out of it. He's right too. I had to laugh at all your glitches and totally understand your frustration. Red, Navy and Blackberry Bliss are the biggest culprits for me. I hate to use them when I have a class! Your card is fantastic and if you have snow-like embellishments, would it cover up the outside smudges? Thank you for sharing your real life experience.
ReplyDeleteI think we've all had the same experience, LeAnne. I know that I have! Red is particularly apt to smudge and smear. But the finished product is amazing! I love that Santa hat!
ReplyDeleteNot only do you get an A++ for effort, LeAnne, you get a BRAVO for your stick-to-it-ness - and John is all wrong - I totally love that Santa Hat.
ReplyDeleteOh the miseries we withstand when using red inks - or markers! xx
=]
I love your Santa hat! Oh my! What a story! You are so patient. I would have tossed it all! Thanks for sharing your talents and your trials!
ReplyDeleteThanks for being so REAL LeAnne! You made me laugh but I have definitely been in your shoes!
ReplyDeleteJust like life, we PRESS ON and beauty comes from it!!
I saw the Santa hat right away and it is an adorable card!!
Oh my goodness, what on ordeal... I can relate LOL!! I think John might be off his rocker, I saw a Santa hat right away and it's adorable. You stuck it out and it was worth it!
ReplyDeleteWell I can so relate to your creative process! Red is the hardest color to work with! And I didn’t even think hourglass until he mentioned it...lol...so funny! I think it is marvelously clever!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful! Such a great way to use a Santa Hat!
ReplyDeleteI love the Santa hat!! Great use of the sketch. Thanks for playing along with us at FMS!
ReplyDeleteOh LeAnne, you get an A+ for perseverance, my friend, what an ordeal but I'm glad you pressed on, this is a beautiful card, and, the hat does look like a Santa's Hat.
ReplyDeleteI also get smudges on my panels, I think we all do at one time or another, it's frustrating, especially when your card is almost done.
Beautiful card, one more for your Christmas stash.
Thank you for playing along with us at SHOPPING OUR STASH, hope you play again next time.
