FF169 Celebrate You

Happy Tuesday, peeps!  I have a decidedly masculine card for you today, but first I must whine a little....I made this card last night in my craft room which is like a cave sometimes, despite all my attempts at lighting!  This Magnolia Lane DSP is Early Espresso, which is a nice, dark brown, but when I stamped the wood image from Rooted in Nature in Early Espresso ink, it looked almost black, and I didn't like it, so I stamped it in Soft Suede.  In my nighttime-cave-craftroom lighting, they looked pretty good together, so on I continued, adding my sentiment and little leaf and went on my merry way.  This morning, when I photographed it in natural light, I was aghast...it looks terrible.  The two browns just don't work together very well...and yet, I am not going to toss it, since men don't really look at that kind of stuff anyway.  BUT....my whining is that I wish SU would come back with Chocolate Chip or some sort of other brown that is not so greenish (Soft Suede) or not so dark (Early Espresso).  Is that so much to ask?  Okay, done with my rant and you can judge for yourself:

My sentiment is from Itty Bitty Birthdays, which has some great little ones that fit nicely in the Stitched Rectangle dies.  I stamped the leaf image in Pear Pizzazz and diecut it with the matching die.

I contined with Pear Pizzazz on the inside, stamping my leaves again, this time second and third-generation so they were very light.

My lovely sketch is from Fab Friday:

And so there it is, in all its "unattractiveness"!!  What can I say?  And since I have no Cassidy pix this week, I thought I'd share some of the beautiful birthday cards that I received a few weeks ago:

These two are from Kathy and Laurie, my PP teammate:

And these two Magnolia Lane beauties are from Teri and Sandy:

Thanks for popping in today---enjoy your day and be blessed!

  1. I kept my chocolate chip paper just in case they bring it back! I know what you mean by natural lighting showing things you don't necessarily like. I agree a man probably won't care!Pretty birthday cards.

  2. Okay, so there is a difference with the Early Espresso and Soft Suede. Your card is fine though and like you said the male species probably won't notice anything wrong. And if it makes you feel any better I have always thought that wood grain circle from Rooted in Nature was a giant mushroom! LOL! Belated Birthday Wishes to you!

  4. I vote for the return of Chocolate Chip, too - it was my go-to for YEARS, sigh... However, you've managed to coordinate your browns beautifully here - I wouldn't worry about the difference! I think the suede actually makes the background DSP more chocolatey, lol... Thanks so much for playing at Fab Friday!

  5. It's a beautiful card... or should I say handsome?
I hear your heart, my friend, so whine away! I'm still miffed about the Close to Cocoa LOL!

  6. I think it's fabulous LeAnne, I like the little leafy sprig you added. Just think of it this way. There are lots of different shades of brown in nature and they all mingle together!

  7. I think the two browns work together on your card LeAnne - but I would still second a request to see the return of Chocolate Chip - there really is nothing like it! I guarantee the recipient f this card will have no complaints - and remember, it’s the thought that counts!

  8. Like you I miss Chocolate Chip and sometimes I still use it...such a nice, basic brown! But I also agree that men don’t really notice those things! Your cards are so inspiring!
