Happy Saturday, peeps! Today is our town's annual Memorial Day parade, and John will be marching in it once again! Blessedly, the weather is beautiful, although we'll probably be HOT by the time it's over! I won't complain, though, I promise!
We lost a dear family friend earlier this week; he had developed dementia and his body just gradually forgot what it was supposed to do. His wife was a classmate of my dad's, so I always enjoyed talking to her as she is one of the sweetest ladies I know. She was really heartbroken when my dad passed away; they were class reunion buddies! It's been a rough few months for all of us. Jerry served in the Navy and the Air Force, so I wanted a sympathy card to honor him for his service as well as offer condolences. Artistic Outpost's Hero set came to mind, so here we go:
I used this sketch from Paper Craft Crew:
I stamped the "hero" image in Night of Navy on a piece of Whisper White cardstock, then added a layer from Authentique's Original collection which featured a white and navy weathered look. I embossed another plain layer of the same collection with the Star embossing folder, added a red and white striped ribbon and a Real Red punched star:
I managed to get the sentiment from Itty Bitty Greetings stamped on the little tab at the top of the paper, then used a narrow banner die to cut it out:
I did add some silver thread behind the image, but since it was a masculine-themed card, I didn't want to go too overboard with embellishments!! I am also adding this to the Color My Heart Color Dare challenge this week:
Thanks for popping in today--be sure to stop back tomorrow when I will be the Paper Players hostess! Enjoy your day and be blessed!
My little helper!

Beautiful. Such a nice way to remember the fallen. Can't wait to see photos of the annual parade. John always looks so neat in his uniform. And he can still get in it!! Amazing! HA!
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for your loss, LeAnne. Our heroes are so hard to say goodbye to. Amazing to hear that he served two branches of our military. Take care, my friend ... this wonderful card will be sure to help your lady friend know you are thinking of her, and that he will be remembered!

Dementia is such a sad disease, along with any mental illness. I think his wife will be very please with what you created. It is so patriotic along with being unique. Your creativity continues to amaze me. You are a blessing. Have a wonderful Memorial weekend.
