Happy Sunday, everyone! We had SNOW yesterday, so it is feeling more like winter than fall here in PA! I promised yesterday that I would give you some details on Mr. Scarecrow! But first, I do want to tell you that the regular Paper Players challenge is still going on! This week, we have an “Anything Goes” challenge with a fall theme:
Nothing says “fall” like a scarecrow, right? So here he is again:
The body construction is pretty easy—just some pieces of Cajun Craze that were distressed by rubbing them directly on a CC stamp pad. The body measures 4 1/4” x 2”, folded in half so that the opening is at the bottom; that’s where I stuck his legs in! His shoulder and arms are one piece that measures 4” x 1/2”, and his sleeve is punched with the Pennant Punch, trimmed down to size. Everything was shaded with a dauber as well. Here is the rest of the construction:
- Head – Basic Black punched with 1 1/4” Circle Punch, sponged with Craft White ink
- Hat – Two Basic Gray ovals punched with the Large Oval Punch, sponged with Basic Gray ink
- Beak – Daffodil Delight punched with 5-Petal Punch – cut one petal off – sponged with Pumpkin Pie ink
- Bird – Basic Black punched with Bird Builder punch, using wing for body; punch wing again using scrap of black for second wing and Pumpkin Pie for beak
- Buttons – Basic Black punched with 1/4” circle punch
- Fringe – scraps of So Saffron cut in strips, sponged with More Mustard, then fringed with Paper Snips and curled up slightly
- Legs – Cello bags found in the SU Holiday Mini Catalog (#124134 – 50 bags for $2.50). These are filled with Reese’s Pieces, but you could use any small candies. They have a peel & stick top so they are easy to seal! I just taped them into the inside of his body.
- Eyes – would have been easier to use a White Gel pen, but since I do not have luck with them, I used a white Watercolor Crayon and a blender pen
I also adhered a piece of chipboard about 3x1” to his back to give him some sturdiness to sit up. It’s a little bit of work, but it’s not difficult at all and it goes pretty quickly! A fun little gift for a special someone! I had made another Halloween treat a while back using a scallop punch:
I did some shading and added some jack-o-lantern features; gave him (or maybe it’s a her) shapely legs by tying off the ankles; and some curly arms with some chenille stems curled around a pencil! Inside is:
a chocolate-covered peppermint candy! If you can find the wrapped kind (not the kind in a little foil bag), they work much better. Unfortunately, my store was discontinuing these….I bought a bunch of them (and then ate them, one by one!) but now they’re gone. I didn’t do a very good job adhering this---lots of scotch tape—but the recipient liked it!
Hope you have some time to play along with our “Anything Goes” fall challenge---put on your creative thinking caps and let’s see what you come up with! And don’t forget my blog candy here!
Here are a few “fall” photos for you. I always lose my shoe when I walk in the leaves, don’t you? Thanks for visiting today!
So cute...wish I had bought some of those now! Oh well, not too late I guess to get some for Christmas stockings, huh?

ReplyDeletep.s. We had snow too-unbelieveable!
LOVE the pumpkin head and do I see WIND? arghhh
ReplyDeleteIt's 32 degrees up home today but they haven't had snow, and it's 52 degrees here right now, but will hit 72 later.
My back is getting better from the 15 hour ride, but I still haven't opened all the goodies I bought in Indiana.
Maybe they'll surprise me on Christmas.....lol
Now your scarecrow has a pumpkin pal! Both are wonderful creations. TFS all the details on how it is made (very creative to use the peppermint patty)! Fun pictures, too.
