JUGS Challenge #5

JUGS5

Whew, I am getting this one in just under the wire...the Halloween wire, that is! Today's Just Us Girls challenge is to make a holiday card for a photograph. Kristin didn't say exactly WHAT holiday, so I made one last Halloween card. (And make sure you visit the blog....they have CANDY!).

Anyone who reads my blog knows that we are hosting a woman & her brother while she gets a guide dog, who will help her with migraines and balance issues from brain tumor surgery. They "graduate" tomorrow and today they had a Halloween party, complete with costumes, so yesterday, we sat & cut out felt petals and used black pipe cleaners as a framework so that Dutch could be a "black-eyed Susan". I was fortunate enough to get a pretty good picture of Dutch wearing his costume---he looks a little forlorn, but really, he's quite happy! I made it into a big easel card and I will give this to Lynn as a special reminder of the time she & Dutch spent with us:

He & Lynn won a prize for being the best look-alikes!! Here they are:

Lynn & Dutch

The card itself is very simple; I used Basic Black, Whisper White, & Summer Sun cardstock, making a 5 1/2" square card. The witch hat is embossed in White EP using White Craft ink. The other images are from Crafty Secrets' Halloween set, the "happy" is from SU's Happy Everything set and the words are computer-generated. The directions for the easel card can be found on SCS here. If you have any other questions, just shoot me an email! Hope everyone has a safe, happy Halloween!!!

  1. LeAnne!!! This is such a FANTASTIC card!!! I LOVE that you guys made a costume for Dutch to be a Black Eyed Susan! How funny and clever!! I LOVE the closeup photo you got of him...yes, looking a little forlorn, but that just adds to the humorous element :O) The simple witches hat in the corner is the perfect touch! Also love that you made it an easel card and something that Lynn can cherish forever!

So glad you chose a different holiday to showcase a photo! I don't want our participants to feel limited so I left it generic, and boy am I glad I did! I sure got a chuckle out of your card :) Dutch is just too cute!

Thank you my dear for supporting the JUGS! We so love having you and seeing your beautiful work. I cannot WAIT to see you next week! I'm giddy with excitement! I've never met online blogging friends before!

Okay, I'll send your digi set as soon as I publish this comment! Hope you can play along again next week for our sketch challenge! Maria is our sweet host. Maybe I'll bring the sketch to Philly with me and we can fool around with it there ;]

Happy Halloween my friend and tell Lynn and Dutch the same. They appear to make a great pair (and not just because their costumes match :)

  3. LeAnne - OMG I laughed so hard at this card - it's ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE!! That costume is to die for - I must show it to my son - he does volunteer work at a dog rescue shelter - he will get a kick out of it. It's great to see a Halloween photo showcase - there was no "rule" about which holiday to use! It's SO great to have your talent playing along with our challenges - we LOVE it that the CTD team members are such avid participants! Thanks for supporting the Jugs *giggle* again! :-)
    Hugs n smiles,
    Pam
